Sunday Switcheroos

Hey there, loyal visitors and first-time guests! On this lovely Sunday, I thought I'd do a little cross-promotion for the various blog wonders offered as the Adonis Complex blogs, in hopes that some of you who might not know of some of them will be thereby edified.

On Adonis Complex I routinely feature five (or so) gorgeous guys, usually wearing less clothing than you might see at, say, church, or a croquet game. In that vein, I will highlight the five Adonis Complex genre blogs with a typical sample of each type and a bit of a blurb on what to expect. Links to these blogs abound in this lovely post, so go nuts!

First up we have the eldest of the five genre blogs, the cunningly named Athletic Supporter (and look, the Adonis Complex favorite Michael Radon!) is where the sports - or sportsman - lover can get his or her fill of jocks of all types, from basketball and baseball to bobsleds and billiards! There's never a dull moment and everyone is eligible to play in this game!

At Uniform Follows Function, everything is as proper and high-class as the high-cult title (if you don't get it, look up Louis Sullivan or any book on Modernist architecture). But don't get the wrong idea; just because these guys aren't dressed to the nines doesn't mean they don't show as much of the good stuff as the men of Adonis Complex! So whether your taste is for firemen or farmers, cops or cowboys, you'll find a new man in uniform just about every day at Uniform Follows Function.

MANochrome

You know, there are a lot of series in which I find the third installment to be particularly pleasing to me (the Harry Potter books and films, Will & Grace, acts of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), and although I love all my blogs as equally as Kate Gosselin loves her eight bazillion kids, ever since its inception MANochrome has held a special place in my heart of hearts. It must be something special for Adonis Complex readers too, because the theme won out in a visitor poll prior to the third genre blog's inception. Upon first visit one might wonder if his computer screen had traveled back to the 1950s, but I assure you, all the photos are supposed to be in black and white (or, more properly, grayscale). And all of the color-free shots at MANochrome are untouched by your trusty blogger: no de-coloring of favorite color shots here, so all are artistic choices made by those who produced the visual delights. At MANochrome there are even gimmicks in the posting calendar: one, two, three and four shots go up on Mono Mondays, Two's Days, Three-fer Thursdays, and Four on Fridays, respectively, although the occasional weekend special does pop up from time to time. So come on down, for after all, it doesn't matter if you're black AND white!

In coming up with the theme for the latest Adonis Complex blog I decided to indulge one of my two life-long aesthetic weaknesses (the other, if you must know, is pectoral muscle), and thus Blonde Moment came to be (and look, it's another Adonis Complex favorite, James Ellis!). While it's just beginning to get marketed to any extent, it is something of a pet project, only better because anyone can enjoy it! Although unlike at some of my other blogs you'll find no clever headlines here (posts are labeled in numerical order), I have made a concentrated attempt at more detailed tagging, something I plan on doing retroactively at Adonis Complex in the near future for those who like things a lot more particular like I do, on occasion. As for real vs. fake blondeness, frankly my dear I don't give a damn. If you don't either, stop by Blonde Moment and show the new kid on the block some love!

Okay, not all of the titular hunks at Songs and Studs are as perfectly suited as this one to the unique crossover between the Adonis Complex blogs and my other major blogging effort, the pop music blog Vertigo Shtick. At Songs and Studs, you get a healthy dose of each course of the meal, with each song post (including a song from my extensive pop music vault, also usually featured at Vertigo Shtick, as well as some history, trivia, analysis, criticism, or just gossipy stories) typically bookended by two pictures of hot Adonis Complex-style studs from my extensive hot pictures vault. It's a great stop for music lovers who also like a bit of man candy on the side, or man candy lovers who feel like browsing a bit of music or reading some text along with their hunky entree, or just from anyone who appreciates the occasional something different in the world of man-candy blogs.

And though it's not quite as full of abs and pecs and other such visual delights, if you'll indulge me to promote the aforementioned pop music blog, I promise I'll make it fit this post to the letter. You will? Excellent; here you go.

I know, I know, that Rolling Stone photo from ancient times has been used through, but day-um...if only he'd brought THAT back! Anyway, Vertigo Shtick, as I mentioned, is a pop music blog I launched in December. It operates on a philosophy that while most music journalism and criticism considers mainstream pop music to be low-cult, or at least unworthy of any kind of serious or analytical consideration, I disagree: at Vertigo Shtick, pop music gets the full critical treatment, because within the genre of pop music I believe there are A-students, average joes, and those who simply flunk out - just as in all music, or any art form for that matter. Call it, if you will, a sort of upstart version of Pitchfork, applying the admirable critical ear and writing style of the brilliant indie music hub to a kind of music the site generally ignores. At Vertigo Shtick you'll find track reviews and commentary on songs of today, yesterday and last week; (usually) weekly playlists with fun themes like songs with proper names in the title, or songs from 1999 (this week, we try to count to twelve with song titles, and almost get there too!); track, video, album and artist reviews; new videos or songs posted for free viewing and/or listening; and other various samplings of thoughts on the pop music scene, all with my special mix of wit and wisdom. Come by and check it out, and tell your friends, because without six-packs and rippling biceps it's harder to launch new blogs these days!

So here's a review, with the fabulous banner ads I've created over the past year or so for these fun and fabulous blogs (for those of you with blogs, if to use these as banner links on yours I'd be more than happy to reciprocate!). Flip through them all; if you like, bookmark them and come back whenever you want! And most of all, have fun! Until next time, happy hunting!

Friendship Fridays

I decided to give "Football Fridays" a bye week (partly because my supply of new material for that particular category is running low after well over six weeks of this blog, not to mention the new Athletic Supporter, my sports-themed partner photoblog launched publicly earlier this week. I felt a tribute to friendship was due in light of events from this past week which have brought friendship to the forefront of my mind.*

When I moved away at nine years of age from the city in which I was born, leaving behind a modest but solid few strong friendships that have remained in various degrees to this day, my best friend and I would write one another valiantly every month or so (this is pre-email...and I mean 1993 pre-email, thank you very much). Without fail, we would always end our letters with one of the rhyming verse endings from the old Ethel Merman/Cole Porter song "Friendship" (which I believe we knew because of a recreation by Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy somewhere around our childhoods). Thanks to the glorious wonder that is Facebook, we were able to reconnect recently as she celebrates her recent engagement. My, how we've grown!

It's friendship, friendship
Just a perfect blend-ship!
When other friendships have been forgot,
Our will still be hot!

"That's...Cool" Thursdays

Happy Thursday! A few business notes to take care of, then off to cavort with the hunks. First: I extended the poll about themes people would like to see in my genre offshoot blogs as well as here (located in the menu to the right), so go ahead and put in your thoughts! I have no idea if it lets you vote again if you already have, but I say go for it...your passion deserves the extra votes.

Second, I know I hinted to my Facebook fans anyway that yesterday would be particularly exciting, and wanted to let you know that the delay came from me deciding it's better to be safe than sorry, and contacted a certain proprietor of some images I planned on using to try and get the all clear. You'll know if and when that's gone through, as the post planned is, well, eye catchingly out of the ordinary around here, at least. Hopefully you'll get to enjoy that soon.

Third, speaking of Facebook fans, I send out nice, inobtrusive little reminders about posts through that channel, and I'd love to be able to include the clearly thousands more folks who have stopped by than the 55 of the loyal and true (but, as always, hooray for those 55!) I promise I won't embarrass you or do anything to get you in trouble...and if you don't believe me you can always hide updates to make them private, of course! Anyway, I'd love to have you on as a fan if that is what you are, so do join if you would possibly!

And finally, I really don't like to ask this because you are all welcome to hang out here and look at six-packs and pecs and skin and...etc as long and as often as you like, no strings attached! However, if whenever you're here you literally just click on an ad or two, it would make a huge difference for my earnings, which I at the very least had hoped to become enough to keep at least the blog alive. Tell you what...if I notice after today a notable positive change in my ad clicks and so forth for a reasonable enough period to know that it's because you're really helping me (gasp! sniff!), I'll show my gratitude with...uh...I don't know, double-sized posts for a whole month, or something.

Last thing from me and you can enjoy the men in silence as usual...so to ostensibly prove I'm not kidding about doing a double post month for y'all if my silly challenge happens to go over well, I thought I'd pick the most mundane and obscure of common traits to make a theme for today's post, so I picked brick, because it's, well, brick. But to my (continued) amazement, I have a heck of a lot of these pictures; let's just say what I've put up here today is barely half of the total of options. So go me...you scratch my back a little, I can scratch yours however you want it.

I extended the poll about themes people would like to see in my genre offshoot blogs as well as here, so go ahead and put in your thoughts! I have no idea if it lets you vote again if you already have, but I say go for it...your passion deserves the extra votes.

So click ads, enjoy the men, and have a great Thursday!

Cure for the Tuesday Blues

This will probably sound shamelessly trite, but I really am feeling kind of blue this morning after a long day yesterday that was topped off my the loss of my cell phone and other stuff none of you need to care about. Because instead of bringing other people down, I decided to channel my blues in a more creative fashion.

P.S. To be honest, I actually do feel a little better now...

World Champion Weekend: Andy Roddick

Over the year and change I covered sports for GayWired.com, I never hesitated to shamelessly admit my particular admiration (and adoration) for a special few individuals in the world of sports, and would always make a point to include them in my pieces. One of these fantastic few favorites of mine was (and will always be) one Andy Roddick: American tennis pro extraordinaire, ex of Mandy Moore, alumnus of every teen beat mag, famously uneven of temper...and, until relatively recently, apparently well on his way to slumping into obscurity. Even a brutally hot 2007 cover of Men's Fitness turned out to be more controversial than career-boosting when Roddick himself mused that the magazine appeared to have enhanced his image beyond what he could rightfully claim as his own (but oh how I still love it anyway).

(The infamous Men's Fitness cover)

Then came a new coach in December 2008, and a new bride in April 2009, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker, and suddenly things began to change.

(Roddick and then-fiancee Decker)

Photos of Roddick practicing shirtless before the Australian Open in January showed a newly buffed up young firebrand unlike Roddick had ever been seen; though he was not expected to perform nearly as well, he made it to the final by outlasting defending champ Novak Djokovic in nearly four sets in record-breaking heat, although he lost the final match to Roger Federer. Roddick's shining moment would come later, though, in a rematch with Federer in the final round at Wimbledon in July: the five sets in that matchup had even casual tennis fans twittering in astonishment, and while Roddick was again defeated 16-14 in the final set, he nevertheless set a record for games won at Wimbledon at 39.

Roddick goes into the US Open as the fifth seed in the world, and advanced to the second round Monday night with a sweep of 84th ranked Bjorn Phau of Germany, followed by a win over unseeded Marc Guigel of France on Thursday. I couldn't be rooting for him harder, especially since there's maybe one other tennis pro who can even compete with Roddick in aesthetics (and no, I don't mean "long, greasy hair" Nadal or "hissy fit" Djokovic, and definitely not "boy is he ugly" Federer; I mean Brit Andy Murray, one of the few Englishmen who has had the distinction of ever outranking David Beckham in a desirability poll in that country, albeit only once). Down with Federer: up with this hard-working comeback story!

In honor of my singular affection for the Incredible Mr. Roddick and his current attempt to solidify his dazzling resurgence into prominence, here is the first of no doubt several collections of images so that you might enjoy him in new ways as I have done for years.
